Our Story

Schinkel Properties was started in 1984 by Bob Schinkel. The company started out as a residential rental company and became a commercial leasing business after growing for several years. The recession in the 1980’s proved to be difficult for businesses across the country including for Schinkel Properties. Despite the economic challenging times, the company did manage to add properties despite some high vacancy rates. During the 1990’s the company continued to grow and built the Days Inn in Steinbach in 2001. In the early 2000’s the company obtained several apartment and commercial and condominium projects while continuing to grow in the property management department. Today the company manages over 3,000 condominium units, 750 apartment units and 300,000 square feet of commercial real estate. We also own and manage 5 hotels in Manitoba and one in Alberta.

Schinkel Properties remains a family-run business based in Steinbach and Winnipeg with hotels in Winnipeg, Steinbach, Winkler and Edmonton. Operations of the business is overseen by their son, Justin and construction is operated by their son, Evan. The team’s mission is genuine care. We truly believe that if we genuinely care for our team members and co-workers; they will genuinely care for our clients, which will eventually lead to profits. We fully recognize that this is a lofty goal that will be continuously worked on throughout our lives.

One area in which we show our genuine care is through actively giving back to the communities we are lucky to be in. We do this through washing over 45,000 coats for the Koats for Kids program in the last few years, working with local charities such as The Bethesda Foundation and many more. Each business unit actively gives back to the community that it is located in.
