Is Your Condo Ready for a Winter Power Outage?

| Read time: 1 min

Winter storms can arrive quickly, and power outages are always a possibility. Being prepared ahead of time can make an outage much less stressful. Put together a simple emergency kit with flashlights, extra batteries, a fully charged power bank for your phone, bottled water, non-perishable food, and warm blankets. Store everything in one easy spot so you’re not searching around in the dark.

If the power does go out, keep your fridge and freezer doors closed as much as possible to keep food cold longer. Unplug sensitive electronics like TVs and computers to protect them from power surges when the electricity comes back on. Never use BBQs, camp stoves or generators indoors as they can produce dangerous carbon monoxide. As well, check in on neighbours who may need a little extra help, a little kindness goes a long way.
