Our Story

1980s
Schinkel Properties was started in 1984 by Bob Schinkel. The company started as a residential rental company and became a commercial leasing business after growing for several years.
In the company's first year, Schinkel led the development of Victoria Plaza in Steinbach. In the late '80's, the Blumenort Development is headed alongside friend Reg Penner.

1990s
In 1990, Dorothy Schinkel hops on board to become the new property manager for Schinkel Properties.
In 1995, we built our first new apartment building, the beginning of a great journey!

2000s
In the early 2000s, Seine River Trails is developed, while also starting the construction of Days Inn Steinbach. One year after construction, Days Inn Steinbach has its grand opening.
In 2005, Grand Point Development is purchased. In 2008, Heartland Inn in Winkler is purchased and rebranded to what we now know as Quality Inn & Suites. Justin, the current COO of Schinkel Properties becomes the General Manager of the hotel a few years after.

2010s
In 2015, Super 8 East Hotel in Winnipeg burns down. Soon after in 2016, Superior Projects, the main building partner of Schinkel Properties is founded by family member Evan Schinkel. Evan heads the rebuild of Super 8 East and the new KFC establishment in Steinbach. One year later, Super 8 East has its grand reopening.
In 2019, Best Western Plus in West Edmonton, became
our first hotel purchased outside of Manitoba. -
2020s
In 2020, Schinkel Properties won the Manitoba Family Enterprise of the year.
Today the company manages over 2,200 condominium units, 750 apartment units and 300,000 square feet of commercial real estate. We also own and manage five hotels in Manitoba and one in Alberta.
Schinkel Properties is a family-run business with hotels in Winnipeg, Steinbach, Winkler, and Edmonton. Their son Justin oversees operations, while their son Evan manages construction. The team's mission is genuine care, which extends to their employees, co-workers, and clients. They actively give back to their communities, including the Koats for Kids program and local charities. Schinkel Properties loves its work and looks forward to partnering with you.
